Prayer for Philadelphia

City Church desires to be a Christian community fully engaged as an agent of redemption in our great city, and we believe that that redemption always begins by God’s initiative, hinging on the ongoing work of Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit. Therefore, our first work must always be prayer, petitioning God on behalf of our city that we so earnestly desire to see God’s peace worked out within.

For the summer, we are listing 3 over-arching prayer requests for Philadelphia taken from The Philadelphia Inquirer, so that our community at large and anyone who will join us can have concrete and current ways to pray for our city.

Pray with us for the following:

  • As the people of Philadelphia fill our city streets enjoying the beautiful summer weather, pray that God would help groups of different ethnic backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses to find commonality and build relationships of shalom (peace) rather than letting differences further divide them. Pray that those who know the peace of Christ would set an example of gospel reconciliation.
  • Every summer there are deaths among the elderly or young population due to the heat. Please pray that God would surround those at risk by care givers who are attentive and mindful of the heat dangers.
  • Rising fuel and consumer goods prices this summer continue to put excessive strain on our citizens with minimal income. Please pray for those among us from lower socioeconomic brackets, that God would bring relief and help wise spending to allow them to purchase the goods they need for their family’s well-being.
